Clinique Take the day off cleansing balm

Clinique: Take the day off cleansing balm | Yaay, Mweh or Nahh?

Creating makeup looks is what I like to do. But when it comes to taking it off I’m always searching for the most easiest and fastest ways to wipe it off because I really don’t like doing it but it is the most important thing to do.

I’ve tried many products to just wash it off – like gels and foams – but with my skin type it’s very hard to find the right products. Even though, I’ve an oily skin gels and foams made my skin feel dry after using those kind of products. Finding the right product to take my makeup off was a journey of years and then I saw Desi Perkins using the Clinique Take the day off cleansing balm and I decided to just give it a try.

I’m using it for over a month now and I’m really surprised by the way it works. I always thought that an oily product wouldn’t work on my skin type because I have an oily skin but I turns out to work out perfectly.

‘’Lightweight makeup remover quickly dissolves tenacious eye and face makeups, sunscreens. Transforms from a solid balm into a silky oil upon application. Cleans thoroughly, rinses off completely. Gently helps remove the stress of pollution so skin looks younger, longer. Non-greasy. Non-drying.’’
~ Clinique

The package

The balm comes in a lilac jar which means you have to take the product out with your fingers. Off course it is more clean when it comes with a pomp but with a balm you wouldn’t be able to get it out. So, make sure you go in with clean fingers. The package is lilac with a silver lid which looks fancy in your bathroom. The jar contains 125 ml which is quite a lot.

How I use it

Clinique recommends to use fingertips to massage the balm over dry skin and rinse well with warm water. I’m using it a little bit differently. I apply the balm with my fingertips and massage it over my dry face and eyes. Then I wipe it off with the L’oreal age perfect wipes. You don’t need much product, a little goes a long way. This works so fast and it leaves my skin cleaned up. After using these products I rinse it again with an anti-acne treatment by Kiehls. I don’t do this step every night. When I’m lazy I just continue with a toner. These three products are a perfect combination for my skin type because I have lots of break outs and the combination of the balm and wipes makes my skin not feeling dry at all.

Ingredients

Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate, Polyethylene, Peg-5 Glyceryl Triisostearate, Water\Aqua\Eau , Tocopherol, Phenoxyethanol

I did some research to the ingredients and some of them came to my attention. Let’s start with the Ethylhexyl Palmitate. This is made of palm oil and causes deforestation on a large scale. The other product that concerns me is the Polyethylene. This is a sort plastic that contributes to the plastic soup on a big scale. Because it’s so micro you don’t see it and by washing it off it will end up in the sewer system. Sewage treatment plants have not been designed to filter microbeads from waste water, which is the most important reason why it eventually contributes to the plastic soup. To be sure I downloaded the app to check if the product still contains plastic as Clinique claims that the ingredient list may change from time to time. And after checking it says that the product still contains plastic. If you want to keep on using it you can solve this by not washing it of and use wipes like I do.

My opini

I love the product; it looks fancy, it goes a long way and it goes well with my problem skin type. But the two ingredients I described which are bad for nature really turn me off. Since I’m trying to life a healthier life and buying products that are nature friendly I don’t know if I’m going to buy this product again. I will use it until it’s finished with my wipes and after I’ll search for an alternative. However, lots of brands are still using sorts of plastic in their products so it’s hard to avoid it. I just really hope Clinique takes these two ingredients out and replace them for better alternatives. And so I hope more brands will follow.

To be honest: I’ve never digged into ingredients this much but by doing research about this product it came to my attention and I realized that we have to take care of nature more and be more aware of the products we use. I will pay more attention from now to ingredients and the app I downloaded makes it very easy. Nature is defenseless and only we can stand up for it.

Are you going to try the Clinique take the day off cleansing balm? And what do you think about the ingredients? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear your opinions.

‘till next time!
